Mohammad M. Jaber, Abrar Ghaith, Mohammad Kashour:
Exploring Jordanian households’ intentions to adopt solar energy systems using the theory of planned behavior
Sustainable development promotes energy transition as key to economic growth. Jordan is advancing this transition in line with the Paris Agreement. This study explores Jordanian households’ intentions to adopt solar energy systems using an extended theory of planned behavior, which includes attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and perceived mandatory benefits. It also examines the roles of energy poverty and socio-demographic factors like income and location. Based on data from 381 households and structural equation modeling, all predictors positively influence intention—especially attitude. However, energy poverty and demographics have no significant effect. The study recommends enhancing energy literacy and public awareness to boost solar adoption and support sustainable energy in Jordan.
