CiRCLETECH on recent and upcoming events
We have had many CiRCLETECH events recently.
On 8 May, CiRCLETECH staff from the University of Miskolc met with Jan Implom, education developer from Delft University of Technology. MOOC development and online educational technologies were discussed.

The 2nd CiRCLETECH Summer School and Xplorer Conference took place between 10 – 14 June at the LUT University in Lappenranta, Finland, where Hungarian researchers together with our Finnish and Dutch partners participated in workshops, lab visits, attended lectures and they presented their research results. Among others, they heard on the recycling of lithium batteries, on the circular economy role of hydrometallurgy, separation technologies, the role of artificial intelligence in circular value creation, how the university can help society and enterprises to achieve sustainable renewal. The programmes are aimed at researchers working on the circular economy and materials processing, with a particular focus on critical raw materials. The focus was on engineering, providing participants with experiences that will help them develop their research skills and provide opportunities for collaboration and networking. The Xplorer Conference was multidisciplinary, with topics discussed from different perspectives from technology, business and social sciences. Summer School participants had the opportunity to prepare their posters, present them in a pitch session and discuss their topics in the poster section.

On 20 June, we had a webinar entitled Sustainability in Integrated Design Engineering, with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Sándor Vajna, who was a professor at the Department of Information Technology in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Magdeburg from 1994 to 2017. Previously, he has worked in industry for 12 years in the fields of IPD, design methodology, CAx and CIM/PLM. He has received numerous international awards. He is currently teaching at international universities. He is the author of 13 books, 350 scientific articles and a founding member of the Design Society. A video recording of the webinar is available here: https://circletech-hub.eu/news21.html
The 18th European Symposium on Comminution & Classification (18th ESCC 2024 Conference) https://escc2024.mke.org.hu/ was hosted by the University of Miskolc from 24-26 June. Since 1964, this biennial event has a long history of promoting effective professional communication, networking and dissemination of results among academic and industry experts. The three-day meeting brought together experts from ten countries on five continents to discuss the latest developments in comminution and classification, which are essential to achieving the circular economy. CiRCLETECH researchers also presented their research, both individually and with partners, at the symposium. The chairman of the conference was Prof. Dr. József Faitli.

Between 24 – 27 September, colleagues from Miskolc and LUT travelled to Delft, where they participated in trainings and workshops on MOOC development, Horizon Europe proposals and consortium building together with colleagues from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), and visited the University Media Centre.

On 30 September the Sustainable Energy Transition workshop was held in cooperation with the Hungarian Energy Society, where Dr. Tekla Szép also gave a presentation.

Between 30 September and 1 October, Miia John, Maria Mamelkina (LUT University) and Aranka Földessy (University of Miskolc) participated in the EIT RawMaterials Partnership Days in Berlin. This event was about networking, communication and working on possible joint project proposals.
Miia John (LUT University) visited the University of Oulu, Finland, from 16 to 20 September and participated in the Oulu Mining Summit 2024 together with Jaana Ryynänen (Lut University), coordinator of the Xplorer network https://www.lut.fi/en/xplorer. This event was all about networking and communicating the CiRCLETECH project. Programme:

David Peck, associate professor at TUDelft and CiRCLETECH local project coordinator, visited the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Brussels on 9-10 October, where he participated as a CiRCLETECH speaker in the workshop on Channeling knowledge from European projects to the Raw Materials Information System (RMIS). He gave a presentation on “Addressing knowledge needs identified by the CRM Act – developing the RMIS beyond primary and secondary strategic materials supply”, the video of which can be viewed here (from 12:08):

Upcoming events
On 14 November there will be a Preparatory Session for the Research Gap Identification for Research groups 1 and 2. More details will be available soon.
On 17-18 December we will hold a Collaborative Research Gap Identification Workshop. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss research ideas and form research groups. Partner colleagues (from LUT University, TU Delft) will also join us. The 1.5-day workshop aims to bring together researchers from partner universities to identify critical research gaps within the four research topics of the CiRCLETECH project. By collaborating and sharing ideas, participants can gain valuable insights and develop the foundations for joint research projects that will result in publishable scientific articles. The venue is still under discussion, you will be informed later.
